#12 Englishman In Estonia - Su Nägu Kõlab Tuttavalt
Su Nägu Kõlab Tuttavalt (Your Face Sounds Familiar) is an Estonian TV program that features various Estonian actors, actresses, and singers. I came across it last year and thoroughly enjoyed watching it. It reminded me of a program I used to watch many years ago when I was a child called ''Stars In Their Eyes''. It ran for many years and was a popular show in the UK before it eventually ended.
It was exactly the same as Su Nägu Kõlab Tuttavalt in terms of the fact that various celebrities would portray their favourite singers. However, Su Nägu Kõlab Tuttavalt differs in terms of the fact that the same celebrities perform every week over a 2-3 month period, together with, the randomisation of song choices and musicians that are chosen each week for the respective performing celebrities.
Since it was many years ago, I am uncertain if celebrities always sang in Stars In Their Eyes, but I am certain that I remember some celebrities lip-syncing during the performances, with the attention in terms of judging them being focused on their similarities to the original performers. That being said, after doing a little bit of research I found out that the celebrities did usually sing, so this was probably a feature that changed with every season.
Su Nägu Kõlab Tuttavalt seems to have a different feel to it, and definitely has a disparate format in regards to how the show plays out each week. I understand that a new season begins tomorrow (potentially at 8pm, but I am uncertain), so if you happen to be in Estonia, or if you have access to Estonian TV, I would highly recommend checking out this show. The performances are always excellent, and sometimes strikingly similar to the singers they are portraying. I will definitely be tuning in. Will you?
